WIRED: How do you balance the local and cultural touch in your sketches with the ambition to bring this cinematic quality to a wider audience?
José Ramones: We always seek to exalt Mexican culture and our roots, tropicalizing comic situations for an international audience. We bring local elements to a comedy that can resonate around the world.
WIRED: I guess every script now takes days of planning and collaboration. How has your creative process changed with this more intense and structured approach?
José Ramones: I changed my creative habits, spending 2 to 3 hours a day writing both short and long videos. This approach has allowed me to maintain quality on both platforms.
WIRED: What aspects have surprised you most about the direction and teamwork when doing these projects?
José Ramones: Management and teamwork have been key. I have learned to trust the team and the talents, stopping trying to control each aspect to achieve better results as a whole.
WIRED: Your style has been compared to that of Mr. Bean, especially for the use of gestural humor and comic silences. Is it a direct influence on your work, or how did you develop that style?
José Ramones: Mr. Bean has been a major influence. In fact, I’m working on a sketch called “El Señor Frijol,” a Mexican-style Mr. Bean in a taqueria. This type of comedy without dialogue has a universal language, which allows it to be understood globally.
WIRED: Do you have any references or inspiration that guided you in the creation of these visual sketches?
José Ramones: My main references are Key & Peele, Kevin Hart, Saturday Night Live and, of course, Mr. Bean.
WIRED: How do you feel that this new stage of your comedy on YouTube is connecting with audiences in Mexico and beyond?
José Ramones: We are trying different things. In short videos, 60% maintain common comic characters and situations, while 40% are experimental. In long videos, everything is experimental, which allows us to find a new style.
WIRED: What do you hope families and viewers take away from your videos as they watch them together at home?
José Ramones: My videos are a family space to laugh and make fun of everyday situations in a fun and unpretentious way.
WIRED: Are you considering taking your comedy to other platforms or formats, such as film or television, or would you like to continue experimenting on YouTube?
José Ramones: My goal is to continue experimenting, dedicate time, love and creativity to long videos, without leaving aside the short ones. With time and discipline, I will feel ready to explore filmmaking or improve my stand-up. For now, I want to learn, experiment, and enjoy the process as I advance to the next level.
