José Joel, the eldest son of José José, arrives in Peru this weekend to offer a tribute to his remembered father, alongside local guests such as Jean Paul Straus and Jorge Pardo. The appointment is tomorrow Saturday at Scencia de La Molina. Tickets on Teleticket.
What do you think is the greatest legacy that your father has left on a family and artistic level?
They are many. I am happy and grateful to be able to continue with it. I am a singer, I am an actor. And I am happy and grateful to visit Peru with this tribute that is a continuation of my father’s artistic legacy. His way of interpreting was such that any song they gave him made it a hit. For me it is beautiful to recognize this artistic heritage and also to say that he was a great father. What he leaves us, my sister Marisol and me, is something wonderful, because as a father he was the best. Always ready to play, to educate, of course, to scold too. The truth is that José José as an artist and as a human being was almost perfect, because perfection belongs to God. We are celebrating his death anniversary, it’s already been three years. He is not physically there but he is still in our hearts, in our minds. We continue to remember him in a beautiful way, those of us who had the opportunity to meet him personally, family or artistically. A song by José José always accompanies us through thick and thin.
Can you recognize any successor to your father? For many there will never be a voice like him.
To talk about Jose José is to talk about a time when, oh my! The great pillars are abandoning us: Vicente Fernández, Juan Gabriel… Many singers who marked an era 30 or 40 years ago, who made this music that to this day we, the romantic singers, continue to defend in one way or another. industry has been changing, fashions are coming, fashions are going. We are very strong with this reggaeton thing, which is good, but at the end of the day, a good melody and voice are always appreciated. José José as a singer, as an interpreter, I believe, being his son, that he is unrepeatable. What he managed to forge and give, that wonderful combination of the artistic with the personal-family is unique. He had that gift in the throat that I think will be unrepeatable. Of course there are other artists, other singers who arrive, but I am of the opinion that everyone does their own thing. To César what belongs to César and like José José, nobody, absolutely nobody.
There are many versions about who was finally your father’s universal heir. What is the latest that is known in this regard?
Well, the will appeared and very clearly specifies that the universal heiress of everything that has to do with José José is now the property of my mother, Mrs. Anel Noreña. Immediately after, a server, José Joel and then my sister Marisol.
How would you like the great José José to be remembered?
It’s a bit of a personal question. José José was very much a member of his family, of his people, of his public. Day after day I meet people who tell me an anecdote, because my father had to do with many people. I think the general flavor that he leaves behind is that he was a great human being, a very humble and honest person, from his family and his public, in addition to the great artist that he was. We’re not going to get in there. Every time we open our voices, that we start singing his songs, one after another, it takes us to those moments where we fall in and out of love, but there is also the honest and complete human being. I already said it, when he was good, he was good and when he was bad, he was bad and it was easy for him to say it and share it. I think that made the human part of him very present. For this reason, we will always remember him with pleasure, love and affection.
What will the show have that you will bring to Lima?
The show that we prepare is a tribute to be able to deliver a night of semblance, bohemia and romanticism. It will be a romantic party, where we will remember José José’s music in a personal way through his son, José Joel.
