Once Pope Francis rests in the Basilica of Santa María la Mayor, between the Paulina Chapel and the Sforza Chapel, the time of the Church begins. Of a church that is institutionally in the hands of the Cardinal College. We have gone « … The Pope of surprises », as it was soon described, and now we will check if we are in the church of surprises. Let us remember now that Cardinal Ángelo Scola said of the choice of Pope Francis that he had been a “beneficial punch that the Holy Spirit has given us to wake up.”
The homily synthesis of the pontificate pronounced by Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, which some have described as processing, has reflected the expansive wave of the general congregations. It is therefore not only his work. It has been the story of what the cardinals also want it to settle in the imaginary of the story. The Cardinal Re has in this process two outstanding interventions. This first and the Mass ‘Pro choosing Pontifice’. The first with a perspective of going out of the church, the world, also the non -believer, and the second inwards. We are already in the time of the Church. What means to focus now not on the person and personality of a Pope that we do not know, but in the institution he represents, Pedro’s primacy. A time opens in which the future of the Church and the obligatory configuration of Pedro’s primacy is played in the relationship between the institution and the conscience of the cardinals. A relationship that, by the way, is subject to the pressure of the media that begins to weigh the cardinals, as they tell. A consciousness, that of the cardinals, between geopolitics and what seems to be in vogue, geodoctrine.
