Jorge Martín has started the 2025/26 course with his left foot. The Madrid pilot, who had just recovered from an injury that prevented him from participating in the World Cup from the beginning, suffered a device and serious injury while running in the Qatar GP. Martín now rests at the Hamad International Hospital after fracturing eight ribs on the right side of the thorax and three on the side arches.
The current world champion returned to the circuits last weekend after recovering from their ailments in the right hand that occurred during the free tests of the SEPANG circuit on February 5. Martín did not see his return to the competition at all clearly, since, after missing the first three races of the season for injury, the Madrid expressed his doubts about whether he would be able to complete the Qatari GP: “Physically, I am not even sure to be able to finish the race, but, if we succeed, it will be a victory because it will mean that I am starting to recover.”

The current MotoGP champion could not make his desire effective and fell to the asphalt in the second sector in the absence of nine laps to complete the race. However, seeing how close Di Giannantonio was impacting with Jorge Martín’s head, the Madrid pilot was grateful to the reach of the injury in a publication he has shared through his Instagram account: “Thank God. It could have been much worse. I will try to keep you up.”
Aprilia, his new team after leaving Ducati at the end of the World Cup, also published a note in which major evils are ruled out as there are no “evidence of traumatic changes in the brain, cervical column and abdominal organs.”
In the same informative note published by the Transalpino team, it was confirmed that Jorge Martín suffers “fractures of the posterior costal arches, which are eight, from the first to the eighth, and three other costal fractures of the side arches, from the seventh to the ninth”. “There is also a minimal pleural suffusion,” added Aprilia in his statement.
For now, Jorge Martín has not been able to complete any great prize of the four that have been played this season. It will be difficult for the current champion to overcome a plethoric Marc Márquez, a leading World Cup leader in the first bars of the season with 18 points of difference over his brother Álex Márquez.
