Jordan Bardella says for the first time that he would be the candidate of the extreme right to preside France if he is disabled

The president of the Ultra -Right Party National Group (RN), Jordan Bardella, has admitted for the first time that he would be the candidate for the presidential elections of 2027 if the leader of the formation, Marine Le Pen, sees his disqualification confirmed by a judicial sentence.

“There is no ambiguity in the fact that Marine Le Pen is my candidate, and that if she was prevented, I think I could say that I would be her candidate. I cannot be clearer,” says Bardella in an interview published this Sunday the newspaper Le Parisien.

Bardella, who was a candidate for prime minister in the legislative elections last year (in which his party was the most voted), considers that the heads of the State and the government are not so separate. “The function is different, but the ability to unite, to listen, to understand the French, are missions that I have made of mine,” he explains.

The condemnation of Marine Le Pen

Le Pen was sentenced to five years of disqualification after she and others responsible for the party were declared guilty for the diversion of more than four million euros of the European Parliament (PE) between 2004 and 2016.

The European Parliament announced this week that it has requested the Le Pen party to reimburse the deviated funds, as well as compensation for damages.

The funds were to hire the European deputies attendees, but the RN (then still called National Front, FN), used them in training workers in France that there were no work for the Eurocamara, as well as paying the driver and the private bodyguards of Le Pen.

The judgment of March 31 condemned Le Pen AA four years in prison, of them two firm that can comply with electronic bracelet, 100,000 euros of fine and five years of disqualification with immediate application

The leader of the French extreme right, 56, could only attend the presidential 2027 if the appeal trial, which in principle would conclude in the summer of 2026 was favorable.

The day after the announcement of the sentence, Le Pen acknowledged that Bardella, his political dolphin, “is a formidable commitment” but trusted “not having to use it before what is necessary” since now he is only 29 years old.
