Joker: Folie à Deux it seems to be convincing neither the critics nor the public. The rating of the film CinemaScorein fact, is the worst ever as far as the cinecomics genre is concerned.
CinemaScorefor those who don’t know, is a market research company based in Las Vegas that analyzes the public’s appreciation of a particular film through surveys. The audience is asked to rate the film giving a letter grade from A to F (excluding E)and subsequently the average rating.
That said, Joker: Folie a Deux is the first film based on a comic book to receive a D out CinemaScore. Furthermore, only one film has received such a rating besides Joker: Folie à Deux following the pandemic era, i.e. The Exorcism. We remember that the first film, released in 2019, got a B+ on CinemaScore. To make a comparison with two comics rejected by critics and the public, 2015’s Fantastic Four got a C-While 2019’s Hellboy a C.
As mentioned at the beginning of the article, not even the critics are particularly appreciating the film, given that on Rotten Tomatoes record a percentage of 33% of positive reviews (based on 241 critic reviews) with a average rating of 5/10. His predecessor instead obtained one percentage Of 69% positive reviews (based on 601 reviews) with a average rating of 7.3/10.
Rotten Tomatoes it also records the audience’s ratings and, if the first obtained an approval rating 89% (with 50,000 user reviews), this second film is at a standstill for now 33% (but with only a thousand user reviews).
Now all that remains is to wait for the first box office results. The film, according to rumors, it should have cost around 200 millionmuch more than its predecessor which cost 70 million (grossing over a billion). Since marketing expenses are not considered in the declared budget, the film is expected to make a profit it should gross at least 600 million. According to analysts it is unlikely that the film can match the numbers recorded by the first filmbut it doesn’t mean that he still won’t be able to collect the amount needed to stay within the budget.
