Brazil’s best-voted deputy in 2018 lost the 3rd election in a row and says she will abandon politics
The former federal deputy Joice Hasselmann recorded a video to say that he is retiring from politics. She lost 3 elections in a row (2020, 2022 and 2024) after being the best-voted deputy in Brazil in 2018.
Joice ran for a councilor position with Podemos and received just 1,673 votes. In 2018, affiliated with PSL (today União Brasil after merging with DEM) and an ally of Jair Bolsonaro (with whom it is now broken), had obtained 1,078,666 votes, a record. In recent times, the now ex-politician has been advertising diets that she says she adopted to lose weight.
In a video recorded at InstagramJoice says she applied for this year 2024 “without any pretensions”. With a glass of champagne in hand, he stated that “It was the voters’ decision” for her to abandon politics. “I’m not going to run for anything anymore”he declared.
“Before politics, I made a lot of money. As the most important journalist in this country. I gave up everything to dedicate myself to politics.”said Joice in her video. She does not explain the metric she used to qualify herself as “the most important journalist” from Brazil.
Watch (2m34sec):
The year 2024 was, she said, “the last time” who gave up his “career”. It’s not clear what she intends to do. For Joice, the decision comes “because the population is not prepared for what is good, beautiful in the eyes of the Lord”.
NUNES AND BOULOS
In the video, Joice also talks about the 2nd round in the dispute for Mayor of São Paulo. Complains to the mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB), which is seeking re-election and will face Guilherme Boulos (Psol) in the final round on October 27th.
At the beginning of the electoral campaign, Joice had a video recorded with the support of Nunes. Afterwards, the mayor stepped aside because Bolsonaro supporters complained. When talking about the 2nd round in São Paulo, Joice said that Nunes is a “soft ass” and want to see if “he becomes a man”.
Despite criticizing Nunes, she said she will vote for the mayor. “I’d rather support a soft-ass than a leftist”
