Journalist and former federal deputy Joice Hasselmann published this Sunday, 6th, on her Instagram a video in which she declares support while criticizing the mayor of São Paulo and candidate for re-election Ricardo Nunes (MDB). Defeated in the dispute for a seat on the City Council, she also states that she has retired from politics and that “the people are not ready to vote for what is good and pleasing in the eyes of the Lord”.
“I can’t even hesitate who I’m going to bet on: obviously Ricardo Nunes because everyone is against Boulos”, commented the journalist, who continued: “It’s not because I think Ricardo Nunes is great, I think he’s a soft ass bitch because with me he was a soft ass. All it took was Eduardo Bolsonaro to say ‘boo!’ that he was shaking all over”, he said.
During the campaign, the mayor recorded a video in support of the former parliamentarian’s campaign, but after being criticized by state deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), he minimized the case saying that he had recorded a video for several councilors. Nunes is supported by former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), with whom Joice is politically divided.
Joice was a candidate for councilor for Podemos, but only received 1,669 votes and was not elected. The number represents 13% of the 13,679 votes she received in 2022, when she ran again for the position of federal deputy.
“I launched my candidacy without any intention and was unable to be elected. And, I want to toast this glass of champagne with you. Why? Because in this campaign, I didn’t tell anyone, but the decision of what I was going to do with my life was in their hands and I decided, after this result, to retire the boots. I’m not running for anything anymore,” she said.
The former parliamentarian also said that she earned “a lot of money” before politics, being, in her words, “the most important journalist in this country”. He stated that he gave up his career and projects to dedicate himself exclusively to public life. “After the result, I tell you, I retire my boots, because the population is not prepared to vote for what is good, beautiful, pleasing in the eyes of the Lord”, says the former leader of the Bolsonaro government in the Chamber.
In 2018, Hasselmann stood out as one of former president Bolsonaro’s main allies on social media. In April of that year, she even announced her candidacy for the Senate – later, she backtracked and ended up running for the Chamber of Deputies as a representative of Bolsonarism. At the beginning of the retired Army captain’s tenure, she was chosen as government leader in Congress, responsible for representing Planalto in joint votes by deputies and senators.
The break with Bolsonaro came in 2019. At the time, the former president’s “son 02”, Rio councilor Carlos Bolsonaro (PL), even spread memes comparing Joice to a cartoon pig, the character Peppa Pig. In October of that year, Bolsonaro consolidated the rupture by replacing Hasselmann as government leader with senator Eduardo Gomes (MDB-TO).
