It seems that every week a new name sounds to take over the technical direction of Chivas de Guadalajara. Some of the candidates who have sounded to take the reins of the Sacred Herd have been Antonio Mohamed, Diego Alonso, Pedro Caixinha, Matías Almeyda, Jaime Lozano and even the possibility that Marcelo Michel Leaño remains in front of the rojiblancos for the Clausura 2022 tournament .
In recent hours a new candidate has sounded, an old acquaintance of the Chiverío fans: John Van’t Schip. The Dutch coach led the rojiblancos in 2012 on the recommendation of the legendary Johan Cruyff. However, his step in front of Chivas is not remembered in a good way by the fans. The strategist failed to consolidate in Liga MX and could get a second chance almost 10 years later.
Van’t Schip currently serves as technical director for the Greece National Team. After his bad experience in Chivas, he directed Melbourne City FC of Australia, PEC Zwolle of the Eredivisie and Greece, a team he seeks to qualify for the Qatar 2022 World Cup. The Dutchman would be the favorite option for part of a fraction of the board of directors of the Guadalajara, which is strongly pushing for its hiring.
Other sectors of the Chivas board are betting on Pedro Caixinha and Jaime Lozano. John Van’t Schip was recently questioned about his approach with the rojiblancos and if he would return to the team. In a press conference after the match between Greece and Sweden, the coach indicated that he hopes to stay longer in charge of the Greek team.
Van’t Schip assured that he has a current contract with Greece and that he is rebuilding that team. Regarding the information that links him to Guadalajara, the Dutchman affirmed that they are only rumors. “Chivas is a team that I led a few years ago, they are looking for a coach and my name has come up, I am aware, but I cannot comment on whether it is true or not. They are all rumors,” said the coach.
