The job market continues to grow, scoring small reconquest: according to what Istat revealed in November they registered 64,000 more jobs than in October and 700,000 since January 2021. Between September-October and November, according to the statistical institute, there is a increase of nearly 200 thousand employed. Compared to pre-pandemic levels (February 2020), the number of employees is still 115,000 fewer, but the employment rate, equal to 58.9%, is 0.2 points higheri, that of unemployment fell from 9.7% to 9.2% and the inactivity rate, at 35.0%, is still 0.2 points higher.
Always in November, the growth in employment (+ 0.3%) involved men and women, temporary and self-employed employees, people aged 25-34 and over 50. Comparing the quarter September-November 2021 with the previous one (June-August), we observe a higher employment level of 0.3%, with an increase of 70 thousand units. The growth in employment recorded in the quarterly comparison is associated with the substantial stability in the number of people looking for work and a decrease in the number of inactive people (-0.8%, equal to -110 thousand units).
Between October and November 2021, the employment rate grows especially among the 50-64 year-olds, among whom it is associated with the decrease in both unemployment and inactivity; a similar trend is also observed among the 25-34 year-olds, although less pronounced (inactivity is stable). Among the youngest (15-24) and 35-49 year-olds, on the other hand, a slight decrease in employment is observed, which, in the first case, is associated with the decrease in unemployment and an increase in inactivity and, in the second, with increase in unemployment and decrease in inactivity. On an annual basis, the trend is the same for all age groups: the employment rate increases and those of inactivity and unemployment decrease.
The unemployment rate drops in November: it stands at 9.2% from 9.4% in October. According to Istat, in November 2020 it was 9.6%. It was also 9.2% in July and September.
