Margarita has lived to be able to say to the man who murdered her son 15 years ago the same thing she blurted out to him upon leaving the Provincial Court of Toledo: “I will see you in hell!” Jesús Heredia Iglesias was arrested this morning in Murcia capital, in the Carmen neighborhood, by the Fugitive Location Group and the Special Operations Group (GOES) of the National Police Corps. On the run for eleven years for the murder of Jesús Robles Galera, which occurred in a bar in Talavera de la Reina in 2009, he was one of the most wanted fugitives in Spain.
Hidden with his wife in a house in Murcia, from which he has barely left in recent days, Jesús is fatter than in the most recent known photograph of him. It is the image that the National Police has published in its section ‘The most wanted’, a successful dissemination campaign which is allowing the Fugitive Location Group to achieve extraordinary results.
Prado, Margarita’s daughter, learned of the arrest after nine in the morning. «I have super good news. “He has been arrested,” The family’s lawyer, María Ángeles Ten, surprised him. «Oh, my God; “Oh, for God’s sake!” was the tearful reaction of the sister of the late Jesús Robles, who was shot three times, one of them fatally in the heart, in the early hours of June 12, 2009. Father of three daughters, he was 44 years and could not defend himself.
For the lawyer, it is a great satisfaction: «You still had the thorn of having won a trial and that the murderer was on the run. It was a case that took a lot of work to get a retrial. “It seemed as if all that work had been of no value as long as Jesús Heredia was still free.”
Ten learned of the arrest after receiving a message from this newspaper on WhatsApp. “I am very happy for the family,” said the lawyer, who reproduces Prado’s words upon learning of the arrest of her brother’s murderer: «Him, celebrating Christmas, and us in ruins».
On Wednesday night, the lawyer received information from a woman who located the fugitive in Murcia, and immediately transferred the data to 091, to the escapees page of the National Police and to the email ‘[email protected]’. By then, The Fugitive Location Group already had the fugitive under control and also the home. The agents were waiting for an entry and search order, and Jesús Heredia Iglesias was finally shackled, around seven this morning, by some men in black from the GOES.
This is why he ran away
On January 31, 2014, Friday, in the Provincial Court of Toledo, a popular jury found him guilty of the murder of Jesús Robles Galera. But Jesús Heredia was not in prison, after having been acquitted in a first trial that was later annulled, so he was able to go home while waiting to hear the sentence.
The resolution (15 years in prison for the crime and another for the illicit possession of a weapon) was read and published four days later, on February 4, Tuesday, by the judge of the jury court, Manuel Gutiérrez, president of the Toledo Court then. Jesús Heredia, however, did not appear at the hearing to decree the prison, in the noble room of the old building, because he knew he was going to go to jail. That was more than ten years ago. But this Friday he will sleep behind bars.
