wednesday, the new Netflix series, has become a success. With just a few days on the streaming platform, Tim Burton’s new production has set records in views, and has introduced an entire generation to the music of The Cramps with its iconic dance scene. However, the controversies have not been lacking either, and it is that it was recently announced that Jenna Ortega, who has the main role, suffered from COVID-19 at the time of filming this sequence.
During a recent interview with NME, Ortega confessed that the day of her dance recording, she woke up with various symptoms of COVID-19, and had to take a test, which at the end of the day turned out to be positive. However, instead of stopping the recordings, Netflix decided to film the dance scene while they waited for an answer. This was what the actress commented:
“It’s crazy because it was my first day with COVID, so it was horrible to film.
I woke up and, it’s weird, I never get sick and when I do it’s not too bad, I had body aches. I felt like I had been hit by a car and that a pixie had come loose in my throat and was scratching the walls of my esophagus.
They were giving me medication between shots because we were waiting for the positive result. I asked to redo it, but we didn’t have time. I think he probably could have done a little better.”
About, Netflix issued the following statement:
“Strict COVID protocols were followed, and once the positive test was confirmed, Jenna was removed from the set by the production.”
When this information was released, the public reacted negatively on social networks, where Netflix was accused of filming and endangering the health, not only of Jenna Ortega, but of all those who participated in the scene. We are not talking about a sequence with one or two characters, but a whole room full of extras and members of the recording crew. This is what a fan commented:
“This is an irresponsible practice for such a large production. Anyone who is remotely symptomatic is supposed to be kept off set until the test comes back with a result. I’m sure her being positive on set like this caused the spread to other cast members, the crew, as well as the background performers. I would be so upset if I was on this show!”
On related topics, Netflix is working on a AAA game. Similarly, Bullet Train will come to this streaming platform.
