At the end of January this year, when the war now raging in Ukraine was then only the worst possibility, 80 tons of anti-tank missiles arrived in the country from the United States. About 300 units. “Javelins in Kiev!” Celebrated Oleksii Reznikov, Ukrainian Defense Minister, on social networks with a post along with some photos of the shipment.
Developed in the United States in the 90s, the FGM-148 Javelin (‘javalina’, in its translation into Spanish) has become one of the main assets of the Ukrainian troops to face the invaders. They have been able to use them to stop Russian armored columns and new shipments continue to arrive from countries that support the Ukrainian defense. Two days ago, without going any further, Estonia delivered some of these missiles and the US again approved another shipment of these and other weapons worth 350 million dollars.
Mman-portable guided anti-tank isil which can be used by a single soldier
IT IS COMPOSED OF TWO ELEMENTS
The system weighs only 6.4 kilos
The shooter has a night vision telescopic sight
and daytime
Shooting is done sitting or lying down
As it is launched, the missile unfolds its wings, which keeps it
stabilized in flight
IT HAS TWO ATTACK MODES
From above
The missile approaches from above to hit and detonate on top of the target.
Can hit targets up to 2-4km away
Less armor
from above
Direct
The missile flies in a more direct path to the target and hits and detonates on its side.
The minimum range distance is 65 meters.
TVC, control the angle and trajectory
It takes a small battery
It has a device that prevents accidental ignition.

One of the great advantages of this weapon, along with the possibility of being carried and fired by a single soldier, is its infrared guidance.
It’s called “fire and forget”, according to the manufacturer’s review. That is, the gunner locates the tank, shoots and takes cover while the missile’s software determines the precise trajectory to reach its target. In addition, the launchers need only 30 seconds to fire and in another 20 they can be loaded with a new projectile.

But these are not the only missiles crossing heaven and earth these days in Ukraine. Soviet artillery has its own names. One of them is the RPG-7 anti-tank rocket launcher, whose development dates back to the 1960s and which Russia has continued to upgrade.

The conflict in Ukraine has brought to the fore a reality that was already known before the start of the war: Russia’s military power is much greater than Ukraine’s. Western countries have responded and several have already sent humanitarian aid and weapons to Ukrainian territory.
On the part of Spain today, two planes will be sent to the border between Poland and Ukraine with 1,370 anti-tank missiles, 700,000 rifle cartridges and light machine guns that can be used by “people who do not have great experience in the use of weapons,” he warned. Defense Minister Margarita Robles.
