If 2021 was marked by the beginning of space tourism, with the movement of civilians into space, the next few years promise new revolutions. One of the ideas for reaching Earth orbit is by means of an elevator. It sounds crazy, but a Japanese company says it will build this transport by 2050.
The Obayashi Corporation, the company responsible for the biggest building in Tokyo, with 634 m high, has completed a two-year study where the Space Elevator has proved viable. They estimate that in 2030 we will be producing nanofilaments of unlimited length, and that in 2050 the construction of the Space Elevator will be completed.

It is something that will consume a good part of the world’s GDP, but if it is really done, it will open the doors of the Solar System for Humanity. As Tsiolkovsky himself said, Earth is the cradle of Man but you cannot remain in the cradle forever.
Building Space Elevators on bodies with less mass such as the Moon will be even simpler. Soon ships will never land, just dock with spaceports in geostationary orbit, and passengers and cargo will descend by elevator.
The elevator would go up at 200 kilometers per hour on a cable, connecting Earth to space. It would surpass the international space station. It would continue to climb and, after three weeks, it would reach an incredible 100,000 kilometers. About a third of the distance to the moon. According to the company, the device would consist of a 96,000-kilometer carbon nanotube cable, a 400-meter-diameter floating port on Earth and a 12,500-ton counterweight.
The cable will be tight and secure at both ends: on Earth, and at a base, in the ocean. And up there, on a landing platform. The Japanese want to build a station that will rotate in Earth orbit. Without the need for rockets to defeat gravity, going to space would be cheaper and safer. One thing is certain: the top floor will have the best view in the universe.
