Japan|The floods are already affecting the already fragile region, which was hit by a devastating earthquake at the beginning of the year.
in Japan six people have died in floods and landslides caused by heavy rain, according to the local broadcaster NHK, according to the AFP news agency.
In addition, two people are said to be missing.
Heavy rain hit the Ishikawa region in the central part of the country on Saturday, and in the city of Wajima, for example, it rained more than 540 millimeters of water in three days.
An earthquake hit the same area at the beginning of the year, which destroyed buildings, caused tsunami waves and ignited a large fire.
According to Ishikawa authorities, the floodwaters have also taken over emergency housing that had been built for those who lost their homes in the earthquake earlier this year.
On Monday, a total of 4,000 households were without electricity in the area, the local electricity company said.
In Wajima living 54 years old Akemi Yamashita told news agency AFP that he was driving a car when the water started pouring onto the street. He said that within about 30 minutes water flooded the streets and the water level quickly rose halfway up his car.
“I spoke to other residents of Wajima yesterday and they said that this town has such heartbreaking living. I cried when I heard that,” Yamashita said.
On Sunday, a military personnel was sent to the Ishikawa area to help the rescue workers. Tens of thousands of residents in the area have been told to evacuate.
According to researchers, human-caused climate change increases extreme weather events, such as heavy rains.
