The purpose of the campaign is to raise tax revenue. This is because the projects financed with the country’s taxes have not been at their best. The current budget of Japan has a deficit of 48 trillion yen.

Non-alcoholic drinks became very popular around the world in the period of pandemicthe nation of the Rising Sun especially reduced its consumption. Because employees were working from home, after-work outings were virtually over and since then they have not returned to normal.

In 2020, beer sales were down 20 percent, according to Japanese Times.

Although, on the one hand, the tax department puts pressure on consumers; for another, the health administration remains firm, promoting moderate consumption and warning about the repercussions of abuse.
