The Japanese government plans to speed up the process of vaccinating people over 65 years of age with third (booster) doses against coronavirus infection. It was previously supposed to start in February. This was announced on December 28 at a press conference in Tokyo by the country’s Minister of Health, Labor and Welfare, Shigeyuki Goto.
“Now there is a booster vaccination of medical workers, patients of nursing homes and people with severe chronic diseases. In areas where this process is close to completion, one should not wait for February and begin the third wave of vaccinations for all citizens over 65, ”he said.
As of December 27, 78.3% of Japan’s population of a total of 126 million people had already received two doses of the vaccine.
Since December 25, in Japan, all arriving from the Russian Federation are sent to a three-day isolation. At the end of this period, the isolated will have to pass a second test for infection.
On December 9, Japanese scientists conducted a study and found that the new Omicron coronavirus strain is transmitted from person to person 4.2 times more often than the Delta strain. Experts analyzed Omicron genome data from residents of the Gauteng province in northern South Africa. It turned out that this strain is transmitted more easily, while eluding immunity. Scientists added that in this case it does not matter what kind of immunity we are talking about.
A large-scale vaccination campaign is underway in the Russian Federation. Citizens are vaccinated for free. Five vaccines against coronavirus have been registered in the country: Sputnik V, which became the first vaccine against COVID-19 in the Russian Federation and the world, as well as Sputnik Light, EpiVacCorona, EpiVacCorona-N and KoviVak.
