Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi commented on the West’s decision to disconnect Russia from the SWIFT international payment system. This is reported RIA News.
According to Hayashi, the Japanese authorities intend to work closely with the West regarding SWIFT, but at the same time take into account the risks and possible impact of restrictive measures on the markets. He also noted that the upcoming meeting of the G7 countries will discuss the Ukrainian crisis. When asked about the potential expansion of sanctions, the minister replied that Tokyo would determine further steps based on negotiations.
Earlier it was reported that Western countries agreed to disconnect Russian banks from SWIFT. The German Cabinet clarified that banks that were under sanctions would be excluded. Also, “if necessary”, the list of credit institutions can be expanded.
Oleg Matveychev, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications, said that the topic of Russia’s disconnection from SWIFT is a propaganda bogeyman.
