The Olympic Games have come to an end and leave a huge void for all sports fans. His legacy will inspire us with precious memories and the illusion to meet the next appointment.
First of all, Japan must be thanked for the enormous effort in organizing this event. After being forced to postpone its celebration, with all the uncertainty of this time, they have taken the courageous and necessary decision to organize a Games without an audience in a responsible way. It has been a safe event in which we have once again felt the excitement for the sport.
The wait was long, but it was worth it.
We must also thank all the athletes and their technical teams for all the effort made during these five years. It is a job that is not normally seen, marked by perseverance and enthusiasm, to perform in competition. Regardless of the result, we have seen many examples of athletes who never lowered their arms. There is no better representation of the Olympic spirit.
I would like to pay a small tribute to all the Spanish athletes who achieved the great dream of giving the country a medal. You will be the ones who feel the greatest pride in what has been achieved. But believe me, we have cried with joy living their triumphs as our own.
Adriana Cerezo (silver in taekwondo)Never lose that smile off the mat. Inside, keep that aggressiveness, working hard. That talent will give you many more joys.
David valero (bronze in MTB cycling): thank you for that faith and for never giving up. Possibly you dreamed it, and dreams come true. Enjoy it.
Maialen Chourraut (silver in whitewater): example of commitment, effort and perseverance. You added one more medal to your record, with the difficulty that it has. You are legend.
Alberto Fernández / Fátima Gálvez (gold in mixed Olympic shooting): what eye speed, what aim and what insight. Once again they were the best, one more medal for an impeccable record.
Pablo Carreño (bronze in tennis): reward for so many years of effort. You broke barriers, defeated the do of the world and finished beating one number one to win a medal that you will never forget. You fulfilled one of your dreams. Enormous.
Rayderley Zapata (silver in artistic gymnastics-floor): a performance for history. You struggled for a lifetime, preparing for these dates for five years until you achieved your dream. Dreams have no limits. You deserved it.
Ana Peleteiro (bronze in triple jump): you arrived with clear ideas, with that self-confidence that characterizes you and you made the best jump where you should. You competed at the level of the best and set the record. The medal is yours. Dream fulfilled.
Teresa Portela (silver in canoeing K-1 200m): You have participated in 6 Olympic Games. Whoever follows her gets it and no one knows it better than you. Adding this medal that was missing from your record round off your history in our sport. Legend.
Joan Cardona (bronze in candle-Finn): many hours of work that conclude with an image and a unique moment for you. Olympic medalist and dream come true.
Jordi Xammar / Nicolás Rodríguez (bronze sailing-470m): as they said at the end, a dream that they had pursued all their lives, five years of effort and commitment that make them fulfill the dream of their lives. Huge.
Sandra Sanchez (gold in karate-kata): your sport was released in the Olympic modality and you could not do it in a better way. What professionalism and what perfection. That joy and optimism led you to be number one. Let’s enjoy it.
Alberto Gines (climbing gold): how easy, how fast and how outrageous what you have achieved. You are the first Olympic champion in the history of climbing. You are history, you are legend. What madness.
Damien Quintero (silver in karate-kata): what power, what concentration and how many years of effort to hang a medal that you will never forget. Referrer.
Craviotto / Walz / Arévalo / Germade (silver in canoeing-k4-500): the perfect race at the perfect time, teamwork and an example of rapport. To share it and enjoy it, that this medal is yours.
Women’s water polo (silver): if there is something that defends what is commitment and camaraderie, it is this team, a true pride. One more medal for a record that few teams have. To celebrate.
Men’s handball (bronze): they have taught us not to lower our arms and to stand up for those who have at their side, camaraderie and friendship above all else. A bronze they have been chasing for a long time. It is already yours. Great.
Men’s soccer (silver): a generation that has made us dream and a generation that deserved this medal. The future of one of the great sports of our country is in good hands. Knowing how to get ahead of difficult moments and fighting until the end. Bravo.
Of course, I did not want to say goodbye to these Games without giving value to the rest of the Spanish athletes, for their professionalism and for the effort they have made to arrive at such a special appointment. We left without medals, but leaving Tokyo at the top of the podium in terms of personal improvement. Congratulations to all, being there is already a success. Some of us will not return to the following, but I am sure that something will not change in those who go to Paris 2024: leaving the skin will continue to be the most honest way of trying to achieve the objectives.
