The prime minister Fumio Kishida announced that from 1 June Japan’s borders will welcome up to 20,000 travelers every day, compared to 10,000 accepted so far. But, above all, from the next June 10 the borders will also be reopened for tourists from 98 foreign countries, without the obligation to vaccinate. These 98 nations of the “Blue Group“Include the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, China, South Korea and above all European countries which include Italy.
Those of the “Yellow Group”, which include countries such as San Marino, Iceland, Cyprus, Dominican Republic, Saudi Arabia, Portugal and others, will have to remain in quarantine inside their home for seven days (or 3 together with a negative test). Finally, the “Red Group” (which includes Albania, Pakistan, Sierra Leone and others) will be asked for a three-day quarantine in a facility designated by the government, or seven days at home for the vaccinated, or three days with a negative swab.
Although borders are opened, tourists will not yet be allowed to travel to Japan individually. You will need to be part of an organized group. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not yet specified the details regarding the itineraries and how much freedom it will be possible to guarantee tourists outside of group activities. Preparations are underway for the reopening of the international airports of Hokkaido (New Chitose Airport) e Okinawa (Naha Airport).
And you, will you dive headlong into an organized trip to see your beloved Japanese land again or do you prefer to wait a little longer and travel on your own? Let us know in the comments.
