Federal deputy André Janones (Avante-MG) called on his “soldiers” to defend him on social media against the accusation of “rachadinha”. “Today I am the one who needs you! Help me spread this tweet”, wrote the congressman on the morning of this Tuesday, 28th, in a Telegram group with more than 77 thousand subscribers. He advises his supporters to spread the word that the information was taken out of context.
“When will we learn not to judge and condemn before the adversary system and the full defense? I thought Lava Jato had left lessons”, wrote the congressman to his supporters to convince them to defend him on social media.
In an audio recorded by a former advisor, Janones demanded that employees from his Chamber office cover his personal expenses. “There are some people here who will receive a little extra salary and they will help me pay the bills left (sic) from my mayoral campaign”, says Janones in the recording. “I lost a house worth R$380,000, a car, savings of R$200,000 and a pension of R$70 [mil] and I think it’s fair that these people also participate with me today in rebuilding this”, he added.
The practice known as “rachadinha” is illegal because it involves embezzlement of public money. It works like this: the amount is entered as a salary, but the employee is coerced into returning part of it to the deputy. Janones was one of the main critics of the Bolsonaro family precisely because of accusations that they adhere to the practice.
The meeting in which the deputy was recorded took place in February 2019. The audio was captured by former advisor Cefas Luiz, who released its content initially published by Metropolises. O Estadão also obtained the recording. Cefas says that the “rachadinha” scheme was controlled by Janones’ ex-girlfriend, the current mayor of Ituiutaba (MG), Leandra Guedes (Avante). In 2022, another former advisor to the deputy had already denounced him for the same crimes.
‘Fake news’
Janones says he is a victim of fake news, claims that his statements were taken out of context and denies the practice of “cracking”. In the book he has just released, the deputy says that he taught PT members not to refute fake news. “The only moments in which I totally disagreed with the campaign staff were related to how to deal with fake news. ..Fake news cannot be denied”, he recorded in the work in which he teaches the tactic of “deflection of focus”. “Whoever can manage the networks wins the battle in the digital world”, he taught.
The deputy worked in the last campaign of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) as a social media strategist and, recently. In the tweet in which he asks his followers to defend him, Janones compares the “rachadinha” accusations with the case of President Lula’s triplex. “When will we learn not to judge and condemn before the adversary system and the full defense? I thought that Lava Jato had left lessons”, wrote the parliamentarian. “I hope that in the next three years we learn to fight, or in 2026 they will return, with everything. And then, it was already democracy”, he concluded.
The person who already came to the parliamentarian’s defense, even before he asked for help in his Telegram group, was the president of the PT, federal deputy Gleisi Hoffmann (PR), who summarized an accusation of corruption as a political war.
“We know how the far right mechanism works, they accuse others of what they themselves do, distort facts and generate fake news”, he said, expressing solidarity with Janones and without commenting on the content of the audios.
“Cassation is not enough for him!” said federal deputy Carlos Jordy (PL-RJ). Former deputy and former attorney Deltan Dallganol (Novo) called for the breaking of Janones’ banking and tax secrecy, as well as an investigation by the Financial Activities Control Council (Coaf) into the atypical financial movements. Dallagnol also pointed out the crime of slush funds. Both are opponents of the parliamentarian.
Audio
In the audio, Janones also said that it is unfair for him to earn R$25,000 and use R$15,000 to pay off his campaign debt for the City of Ituiutaba in 2016. “Mário will earn R$10,000. I will earn R$25 thousand net. But Mário, the R$ 10 thousand is his net. And I, of the R$25 thousand, R$15 thousand I will use for the debts left over from 2016. It’s not fair, understand?”, he states.
The list of servers hired by Janones includes one named Mário, hired since February 2019, the time of the recording. Today he receives a gross salary of R$16,640.22. When contacted by the report, he was not located.
