On Friday night, Jane’s Addiction played in Boston. The concert was another stop on the tour that the Los Angeles band, with almost four decades of history, breakups and reconciliations, started a few months ago with four of its original members. However, a fight on stage between their vocalist, Perry Farrell, and guitarist, Dave Navarro, has now ended with the return of the rockers. The group has announced on their social networks not only that they are cancelling their next concert, as they had announced at first, but their entire tour, and that they will not continue together either.
In a brief statement Posted on their social media on Monday morning (US time), they said: “To all fans. The band has made the difficult decision to take some time apart as a group. Therefore, we will be cancelling the remainder of the tour.” They then explain that ticket money will be refunded to fans: “Refunds for cancelled dates will be made at the point of sale, or if it was a third party reseller, such as StubHub, SeatGeek… please contact them directly.” Finally, they thank fans and sign off as Jane’s Addiction, without any particular names. On their website The dates for the remaining 15 concerts of the tour, called Imminent Redemption, but, when trying to access the purchase, Ticketmaster already reports that it has been cancelled by the organizers.
In addition, Navarro himself has also posted another statement. “Due to an ongoing pattern of behavior and the mental health difficulties of our lead singer, Perry Farrell, we have come to the conclusion that we have no choice but to end our current relationship.” tour “We are very concerned about their health and safety, as well as our own, and we are deeply sorry that we cannot serve all the fans who have already purchased tickets. We see no solution that will guarantee a safe environment on stage or allow us to offer a great show every night,” he said in his statement, which in this case was signed by, in addition to him, “Eric [Avery, bajo] and Stephen [Perkins, batería]”.
Things got complicated on Friday, during the Boston concert. At one point during the show, Farrell, the frontman and vocalist, approached Navarro and hit him from the side with his shoulder. Farrell’s posture, with his chest puffed out, and his face made it clear that he was angry: this was not a joke between colleagues. Afterwards, he approached Navarro again, who tried to keep him away, stopping him with his right hand while trying to continue playing the guitar with his left. However, he confronted him and some words were exchanged that the audience did not hear and in which the singer was seen to be very angry. Navarro avoided getting into the fight, but Farrell continued trying to hit him. Seconds later, another member of the team approached to try to calm things down and separate them. In the end, the other three members of the group had to drag the singer off the stage. Then, the lights went out and the concert ended.
Over the weekend, the band announced that it was cancelling its next show, which was scheduled to take place on Sunday in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The next show was to take place in Toronto, Canada, on Wednesday, but it has been scrapped, along with the rest of the tour, which was scheduled to end on October 16 at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles, California, the city where the band was formed in 1985.
The group was born in the Pacific city 39 years ago, and Farrell and Navarro were always among its original members, along with drummer Stephen Perkins and bassist Eric Avery. Their journey lasted six years, until 1991, when they decided to split up after three albums and a long tour of more than a year that took its toll on everyone, especially after a concert at the Lollapalooza festival, created precisely by Farrell, and in which he and Navarro fought on stage. The guitarist ended up throwing his instrument into the audience.
They then continued with their own projects, returning briefly in 1997 and later with a tour between 2001 (when they recorded their album). Strays) and 2003, to split up again in mid-2004. Four years later they reunited to go on another tour with the band Nine Inch Nails in the summer of 2009, and give some concerts until mid-2011, the year in which they released their last studio album, The Great Escape ArtistIn May 2024 they had returned to the stage in London, with a tour planned throughout Europe (with two concerts in Spain in June, in Vitoria and Madrid) and the USA that took them to play on almost 40 stages, and of which they still had another 15 concerts to give.
