James Rodríguez wants to play in the MLS, the United States league. He said so in his last broadcast on Twitch. And it would not be in five or six years, but in a much shorter time. He has said that he wants to leave the Qatar League right now if possible and has shown that he has personal reasons, such as the life of his daughter in Miami, that would motivate him to leave as soon as possible.
James in America?
Currently, the clubs and the North American league organization itself want to remove the label of retirement paradise becauseand now what interests them is projecting players to the most recognized European clubs.
Even in the Colombian market, players are sought but at a very productive age and with the option to grow. The exits of men like Emerson Rivaldo Rodríguez (21 years old) to Inter, from Miami, or Santiago Moreno (21) to the Portland Timbers are a good example.
There are exceptions like Diego Chará (35) or Freddy Montero (34), but in both cases they are players who have been in the United States for many seasons and are already thinking about ending the cycle.
Given this scenario, the current commissioner of Major League Soccer (MLS), Don Garber, gave his opinion about soccer stars who see the league as a place to retire.
“We don’t need to bring in a big-name player at the end of his career because they’ve decided they’d like to retire in MLS. When Zlatan Ibrahimovic left, nobody said that he was going to retire to Italy. And, frankly, that insulted me, ”said the American manager this week.
“We want our story to be about young players who come here in the early stages or in the prime of their career and make our league their league of choice. Like all the best leagues in the world, it’s about buying and selling players.”he complemented.
For now, Rodríguez returns to play with Al Rayyan of Qatar, this Tuesday, against Qatar SC, in the national league, in which he is getting closer to the relegation places.
