The President of Brazil, Jair bolsonaro, 66, has suffered several health problems since he assumed power in 2019, mostly related to the stabbing he received in 2018, during a campaign event.

– September 6, 2018: one month before the first round of the presidential elections, Bolsonaro is stabbed in the abdomen in the middle of the crowd during a campaign event in Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais state (southeastern Brazil).
His attacker, a man with mental problems, punctures his intestine several times, causing him to lose more than two liters (40 percent) of blood.
They operate him urgently at a local hospital, before transferring him to the Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo.
– September 12, 2018: Bolsonaro he is operated on again due to adhesions in his small intestine. They also repair a fistula in a suture from the first surgery.
– September 29, 2018: 22 days after the attack and one week before the elections, Bolsonaro is released from the hospital. He does not participate in any television debate with other candidates.
-January 28, 2019: almost a month after his inauguration as president, he underwent a new operation to remove the colostomy bag that he had to use after the attack.
The surgery turns out to be longer (seven hours) and more complex than expected due to numerous intestinal adhesions.

– September 8, 2019: new hospitalization and fourth surgery, this time to correct an abdominal hernia in the scar from the previous operation.
December 23, 2019: Bolsonaro spends the night in a Brasilia hospital after suffering “a fall in the bathroom.”
– July 6, 2020: the president is diagnosed with covid-19. He has mild symptoms and claims to “feel better” after taking hydroxychloroquine, an antimalarial drug proven ineffective against the new coronavirus.
The head of state, who has always minimized the scale of the pandemic, recovers after 19 days of isolation in the official residence in Brasilia, and obtains a negative test on July 25. To this day, he assures that he has not been vaccinated against covid.
– September 25, 2020: Bolsonaro undergoes surgery to remove a kidney stone.
– July 14, 2021: He is admitted to the hospital to treat an intestinal obstruction and a hiccup attack that has lasted for ten days. Doctors opt for a “conservative treatment”, without surgery.
– January 3, 2022: on vacation in the state of Santa Catarina (south), Bolsonaro must be transferred and hospitalized urgently in Sao Paulo for a new intestinal obstruction and tests are performed for a “possible surgery.”
