The old Senate Plenary Hall has become the epicenter of the cultural battle of the extreme right world. After the refusal of the People’s Party to admit to the Senate Table the two motions registered jointly by the PSOE, BNG, ERC, EH Bildu, PNV and the Confederal Left To stop the celebration of an ultra and anti-abortion summit – organized by the Political Values Network –, reactionary leaders from around the world have gathered with the aim of “restoring Christian values.”
Jaime Mayor Orejaformer Minister of the Interior under José María Aznar, made clear his affront against women’s reproductive rights during his speech at the opening of the event: “Those who defended abortion as a free right have been defeated,” he declared. The honorary president of the ultra summit has compared the right to abortion to slavery: “It was also a dominant fashion,” he said.
José Antonio Kastformer president of Chile and defender of Pinochet dictatorshiphas taken over from the former Spanish politician and has continued with a similar speech. “They hate us because they fear us, and they fear us because they know we are irreducible,” he insisted, referring to the “culture woke up“. His arguments, the supposed defense of freedom and the right to life. Kast has not missed the opportunity to vindicate the ultra victories of Donald Trump, in the United States, as well as the reactionary policies of Javier Milei in Argentina.
It is not the first time that the Values Policy Network meets in the Courts of our country. It already did so in 2018, when the organization held a seminar in the Congress of Deputies against Euthanasia.
Faced with these narratives, a group of 13 feminists have gathered on Encarnación Street, next to the Senate, to show their rejection of the summit, shouting: “fascists out of the institutions.”
