Jaguar Land Rover is undoubtedly one of the most loyal car groups at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The British manufacturer did not want to miss its presence at the most anticipated motoring event in the United Kingdom not even in this edition: the group was the protagonist in particular on the occasion of the famous hill climb in which it took part with the new Range Rover Sport V8, led by senior engineer Graham Moss. Thierry was on site to admire the exploits of the Jaguar and Land Rover brands Bollorèthe CEO of JLR, who since taking office has been given the task of relaunching the group through the “Reimagine” strategy.
“Events like Goodwood are extremely important for brands like Jaguar and Land Rover – Bollorè told Autocar microphones – Our profile as a modern luxury company should extend far beyond the cars themselves. This is also part of our ‘Reimagine’ strategy. In some points we are also a bit ahead of our plans: it is true that in recent months we have been quite calm because we are concentrating so much on work, we have a lot to do and we have to be careful about this because we have a long way to go, but also so things are going well “. The number one of Jaguar Land Rover has therefore reassured everyone that the growth of the company is on the right trackalso thanks to the ability of the top management of JLR to never substantially change the plan since it was first conceived.
“The improvements we have promised on the quality of our models will be respected, I wish I could show you our graphics in the office – added Bollorè – We have made progress everywhere, but especially with our latest models. The new Range Rover now sets an extremely high standard, our highest, and we’re doing very well with the new Defender too. ” Like all other car manufacturers, the Jaguar Land Rover group was also hit by the shortage of microchips and semiconductors, encountering a series of significant difficulties: “When the first difficulties emerged, we were unprepared and we were quite naive. We had up to 140 suppliers and in some cases they didn’t even know where the semiconductors were in our cars. But we worked very hard on the problem. We now have far fewer trusted suppliers, less than a double-digit number, and have worked with them to make huge improvements. The problem was complicated to deal with, but it has led to great long-term benefits ”. Difficulties that have turned into a limited production: “Last year we only made half of the cars we could have built. Unsurprisingly, we have long waiting lists. Our goal is to produce 600,000 to 800,000 cars a year and we haven’t even managed to get close to those numbers. “
Bollorè then concentrated on electrified future of the Jaguar Land Rover range, confirming that the enormous efforts dedicated to date to the Jaguar brand range will now also be reserved for the Land Rover range: “We will anticipate some of these models, even earlier than expected to cope with electrification. But I can’t give the details yet ”. Final comment on the Discovery family, which being very family-oriented must have very specific characteristics in the future according to Bollorè: “It has to have many of the best features of our luxury models, but with special attention paid to it at the practicality and accessibility“.
