Marcell talks about his ambitions in an interview on the Fidal website. The athletics program starts tomorrow night
“The final is a difficult goal, of course, but objectively within my reach. That’s what I want, which I have set myself as a seasonal goal ”. This was stated by Marcell Jacobs, the Italian record holder of the 100 meters flat, the queen race of the Tokyo Olympic program that on Thursday night will start the program with the heats, in an interview with the Fidal website.
“It’s true, there are many of us racing for the final – said the Texan from Desenzano del Garda (born in El Paso to an Italian mother and an American father, but moved to Brescia when he was only 3 years old) -: the Americans Bromell, Baker and Kerley, although statistically an American usually gets lost in the street; the South Africans Simbine and Leotlela; the Canadian De Grasse, who doesn’t miss a beat; the Japanese Yamagata, the Chinese Su, and others. And of course me too ”- added the European indoor champion of 60 meters with Italian record in Torun and Italian record holder on 100 meters signed in May in Savona (9.95).
Empty stage, it doesn’t matter
“What time will it take for the final? Marcell asks himself. I don’t want to think about it, I’ve never been able to guess it in the past, like at the Doha World Cup. I just feel that you have to run hard, and that’s enough for me. Can the empty stage condition? As for me I would say not that much. Of course it’s not nice that there isn’t the public to support you. But in our specialty there is usually not as much interaction with people, as for example for jumpers. In the end it will not affect that much ”, concluded the blue sprinter.
