The Executive Committee of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) has suspended Russian athletes from participating in international and continental competitions, according to release organizations.
It is reported that the decision was made in connection with the situation in Ukraine.
In addition, the IWF banned events under the auspices of the organization on the territory of the Russian Federation.
On February 28, it became known about the decision of FIFA and UEFA to remove national teams and clubs from the Russian Federation from participation in all competitions. As the organizations assured, football will become a “vector of unity and peace between peoples” if the situation in Ukraine improves.
In turn, the RFU called illegitimate the decision of FIFA and UEFA to remove the national teams of the Russian Federation. It is discriminatory and harms the sports community, the union said.
