The Adam Smith University Center for Economic Freedom in Miami will inaugurate this Thursday a semester program led by the former president Ivan Duke and former Honduran Vice President ava rossana guevarain which the president of Paraguay, Mario Abdo Benitezwill speak as a guest.
The Paraguayan president will be the main speaker this Friday, September 23, at an event on the challenges facing democracy organized by the Adam Smith Center, which is part of Florida International University (FIU).
This event is part of a six-monthly program in which Duque and Guevara, plus Paula J. Dobriansky, former United States Undersecretary of State for Global Affairs, will act as “senior leaderships fellows”.
According to a university statement, his role will be to lead seminars, participate in talks and debates, meet with and advise students, as well as serve as a resource for the university community.
“As FIU celebrates its 50th anniversary, the Adam Smith Center is deeply honored to welcome a group of public servants of the highest caliber to our community,” said Carlos Diaz-Rosillo, founding director of the Adam Smith Center.
“These Senior Leadership Fellows, in addition to inspiring future generations of leaders through their teaching and mentoring, will join other accomplished world leaders visiting our center for a series of high-profile public events“, he added.
The first public event with the ‘senior leadership fellows’ will be this Thursday, in a conversation with Díaz-Rosillo about the state of freedom in today’s world and the second, the act with the president of Paraguay the following day.
In this program, Duque, president of Colombia from 2018 to 2022, will have as its theme the “Leadership in times of volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity”.
“I am very grateful to them for giving me a space to share my experiences with this incredible team in promoting democratic values, addressing the climate and migration crises, and fostering entrepreneurship and equity,” said Duque.
Ava Rossana Guevara, renowned journalist before serving as Vice President of Honduras from 2014 to 2018, will teach on “The Faces of Leadership in Latin America.”
“In these times of global uncertainty, it is very important to know our past, understand our present and build a better future,” said Guevara.
Paula J. Dobriansky, US Assistant Secretary of State for Global Affairs from 2001 to 2009, among other positions, will address the topic “Navigating US Foreign Policy Decision-Making.”
“It is both an honor and a privilege to be a Senior Leadership Fellow at FIU’s Adam Smith Center for Economic Freedom. The center’s mission is critical and will significantly benefit the next generation of leaders,” Dobriansky said.
