SAO PAULO (Reuters) – President and re-election candidate Jair Bolsonaro (PL) has accepted an invitation and will personally attend the funeral of Queen Elizabeth, the UK’s longest-serving monarch, the Foreign Ministry said on Sunday.
In a note to Reuters, Itamaraty reported that Bolsonaro will go to London for a funeral on September 19.
On the day of the queen’s death, Bolsonaro decreed three days of official mourning in Brazil. At the time, he was still evaluating whether he would travel to pay his last respects, considering that the displacement would occupy days in his reelection campaign agenda.
The president is also due to travel to the United States at the end of September for the United Nations (UN) General Assembly.
