Italy will say goodbye to most of the corona measures at the end of this month. The corona pass will only be abolished from May 1, but foreigners will no longer have to show such a vaccination or recovery certificate in restaurants from April 1, reports Ansa news agency.
The government in Rome has approved a two-phase plan for this, although the number of infections is still rising. However, the country stands ready to impose new restrictions if the situation worsens, Prime Minister Mario Draghi said. It is time to reopen the economy and limit distance education, he said, according to Ansa.
From April, a corona pass is no longer necessary for those who want to eat outside somewhere. People can then go to work if they have tested negative, so proof of vaccination or recovery is no longer required. This will remain the case for employees over the age of 50 until June. The fine for violation will remain in effect for them until that time.

From May 1, Italians can also eat indoors in restaurants without a vaccination card. With the farewell to the ‘green pass’, the measures in schools, public transport and elsewhere in society will be considerably relaxed. For example, face masks are no longer mandatory in indoor areas.
The state of emergency that applies due to corona will remain in effect until March 31. Then the Italian OMT that advises the government will be dissolved, Draghi announced. Italy reported nearly 80,000 new infections, about 7,000 more than a day earlier. The number of deaths and hospitalizations due to Covid-19 is decreasing.
