Italy-Bosnia decides Frattesi. Spalletti, ‘we are a good team, there is something to improve’
“We played a good game, we dribbled better in the middle of the field, especially in the first half. We lacked a bit in the last pass and in scoring goals. Even if there were some attitudes in some moments in which we didn’t see this energy in doing things, even some slightly soft back passes that allowed them to press us.” coach of the Italian national team Luciano Spalletti to Sky’s microphones after the victory against Bosnia, in the last friendly before the 2024 European Championships in Germany.
A goal from Frattesi decided the match with many opportunities also for Scamacca, promoted by the coach. “Tonight he played a good game, the goalkeeper took two beautiful balls. He exchanged, sent the others in, it was an excellent match”, underlined Spalletti on his striker six days before the match against Albania. “Today we did what we had to do, we are convinced that we have a good team, then we will have to get into the real game atmosphere. We have to improve something. We don’t have a lot of time.”
On Chiesa’s performance, more at ease when he widened to the left. “That’s a bit of his position, in Juventus he plays as a second striker, while by putting him in the two on the left we think we’re going to take on both roles. He expanded a couple of times and had the chance to do the one-on-one match didn’t end well, but he had the chance to choose his position. Above all, Cambiaso, who he knows well, allowed him to choose whether to stay a little inside the pitch or wider.”
Jorginho and Fagioli also did well in midfield. “They did very well, they have quality in moving the ball in tight spaces and in preparing the right holes. In the first half they showed themselves, we had to follow up in attacking them, but instead we gave them a bit of space at times and we were content to retreat 10 meters and the others kept the ball too.”
Italy-Bosnia 1-0, Frattesi decides the last test before Euro 2024
Good indications arrive for the Italian coach Luciano Spalletti from Italy’s 1-0 friendly win against Bosnia Herzegovina, after Bologna’s 0-0 draw against Turkey. The Azzurri prevailed at the Castellani in Empoli thanks to a super goal from Frattesi but with many unexploited opportunities, and some errors, in the last test before the start of Euro 2024 in Germany.

In the 8th minute, Bosnia responds after a bad mistake by Calafiori in setting up, Hajradinovic takes advantage of it and forces Donnarumma to make a super intervention. Italy maintains possession of the ball and comes close to taking the lead in the 11th minute: great action with Frattesi who appears alone in front of the goalkeeper, carom and the ball reaches Chiesa but Katic overcomes himself and blocks on the line.
At 14′ the Azzurri are still dangerous with a backheel from Scamacca which triggers Frattesi again but the Inter player wastes time to finish. At 18′ dangerous opponents again this time from a free kick from Gazibegovic, but Donnarumma does well to clear it for a corner. Spalletti’s team raises the pace and in the 30th minute Buongiorno tries but he doesn’t find the mirror in the door. The opening goal came in the 38th minute: Chiesa’s cue finds Frattesi alone in the middle of the area, the midfielder is perfect in coordination and in the first-time conclusion which slips into the corner near the top corner for the 1-0.
At the beginning of the second half Scamacca was still the protagonist. In the 64th minute, splendid action by Italy in a mix of speed and technique with a volley from the Atalanta striker saved by a crazy intervention from the Bosnia goalkeeper. Spalletti changes and inserts Pellegrini, Cristante and Dimarco for Bellanova, Jorginho and Fagioli. Scamacca persistently tries to find a way to score and in the 72nd minute another great opportunity for the attacker who is face to face with the opposing goalkeeper, missing the goal. In the 75th minute Scamacca was dangerous again, this time with a slow shot from outside the central area. Then Folorunsho, Raspadori and Retegui also enter. In the final there was a risk of mockery for the Azzurri: in the 92nd minute an error by Dimarcobut a great Donnarumma blocks Ahmedhodzic on the edge of the area and saves Italy.
