After Bologna’s goalless draw with Turkey, Italy wins in Empoli against Bosnia in the last test before the start of the 2024 European Championships. At the Castellani stadium it ends 1-0 thanks to the blaze of Frattesi in the first half. Now things will start to get serious for coach Luciano Spalletti’s team: in the next few days they will leave for Germany and on Saturday they will make their debut in the continental series against Albania. The Azzurri will have the task of defending the title they won three years ago.
The first half
The first real opportunity to score comes to the Bosnian team in the 8th minute, when Calafiori misses the clearance, giving the ball to Hajradinovic, who comes back on the right and tries to place, calling Donnarumma to the miracle. The Italian response arrived a couple of minutes later, with Chiesa shooting towards goal from the scrum and finding a providential save from Katic practically on the line. In the 14th minute, another great opportunity for Italy: Scamacca rewards Frattesi’s introduction with a wonderful backheel, but the Inter midfielder wastes everything one-on-one with the goalkeeper by making a mistake in the final control. However, Frattesi himself will make up for it at the end of the first half, scoring the 1-0 goal with a splendid right-footed volley from Chiesa’s perfect cross from the left.
The second half
In the second half, in the 64th minute, Spalletti’s team came close to doubling their lead with a splendid first-time move, concluded by Scamacca on an assist from Buongiorno and with a fine save from Piric who raised it over the crossbar. About ten minutes later the Atalanta striker tries again, but this time he wastes a good chance from a few steps away on a ball put in by Cambiaso. In the final, not much else happens, even if in the middle of injury time a bad mistake by Dimarco paves the way for Ahmedhodzic, who, face to face with Donnarumma, fails to take advantage of the very last scoring opportunity.
