The Prosecutor’s Office demands six years in prison for the leader of Forza Italia, who defends his innocence, for having allegedly bribed the witnesses in the previous process about the parties in his mansion
Silvio Berlusconi could have to pay 10.5 million euros for the “planetary discredit” he caused to Italy and its institutions due to the bacchanals he organized in 2010, when he was prime minister, in his mansion in Arcore, on the outskirts of Milan . That is the amount that he has demanded as compensation from the State Gabriella Vanadia, the representative of the Government in the process that takes place in Milan known as ‘Ruby ter’, for being the third party motivated by those parties. The Executive participates as a civil party in the prosecution of Berlusconi, who will turn 86 in September.
The trial has as its protagonist Karima el Mahroug, alias ‘Ruby Robacorazones’, a girl of Moroccan origin with whom the tycoon had sexual relations when she was a minor in one of the ‘bunga bunga’, as those evenings were known. The Supreme Court acquitted him in 2015 of the accusations of child prostitution and abuse of power, considering that he did not have to know the age of ‘Ruby’, although he confirmed that there was paid sex between Berlusconi and the girl.
In the ‘Ruby ter’ process, whose verdict is expected after the summer, the Prosecutor’s Office demands six years in prison for the four-time prime minister, who defends his innocence and considers himself once again a victim of the judges, who according to a complaint they “rage” against him. The accusation also calls for the seizure of the tycoon’s assets worth 10.8 million, considering that he made bribes and manipulated witnesses in the previous processes motivated by the ‘bunga bunga’.
The ‘olgettinas’ of the «sultan»
In particular, the leader of Forza Italia would have guaranteed a payment of 2,500 euros per month to twenty models and aspiring to become television characters in exchange for lying in court or keeping silent about what happened at those parties. He also guaranteed housing for all of them on Olgettina street, located in a residential area on the outskirts of Milan, which is why the girls are known as the ‘olgettinas’.
Although the prosecutor accused Berlusconi of behaving like a “sultan” surrounded by “odalisques” who acted as “sexual slaves”, he explained that the ‘bunga bunga’ were nothing more than “elegant evenings” in which, at most, some day they cheered up and had “burlesque contests.”
The ‘olgettinas’ have had different fates in the twelve years since those bacchanals took place. While Ruby now faces a request from the Prosecutor for five years in prison and the payment of five million euros, and Luca Risso, her ex-boyfriend, six and a half years in prison, the rest of the women who went through the town of Arcore may receive lighter penalties.
In the long chain of legal proceedings there have also been two deaths. In December 2018, Egidio Verzini, Ruby’s former lawyer, committed suicide, claiming that Ruby received 5 million euros from Berlusconi. Three months later, Imane Fadil, a 34-year-old woman of Moroccan origin who was one of the witnesses in the previous trial against Berlusconi, died of alleged poisoning.
