Alonso again
A red flag, the fear for Xabi Zurutuza’s condition fortunately vanished during the race, a controversial penalty to the detriment of Daniel Holgado and, once again, David Alonso’s victory. The Moto3 Italian Grand Prix can be summed up like this, with the Colombian who won his fifth seasonal victory (the third in a row) which was decisive for extending his lead in the standings over Holgado, who finished in 14th position after a double long lap penalty for irresponsible driving at the second start.
Race report
The Italian Grand Prix started immediately with the big scare at 3rd round for the fall of Xabi Zurutuza at the height ofAngry 2with Spanish hit from the arriving and blameless person Filippo Farioli. The Race Direction took care of the Suspension immediately of the race, but with the positive news regarding the condition of the Spaniard, who was transported to the medical center of the racetrack due to a severe trauma to his shoulder but fortunately remained conscious. The restart was thus established on the basis of the positions occupied by the drivers during the 3rd lap and for the last eleven laps, with Alonso in command ahead of Ortolà and Veijer.
At the second start there was in fact a replay of the previous start, with Alonso still ahead of Ortolà immediately in the Colombian’s exhausts. However, at the San Donato braking point, a contact occurred between Rueda and Nepa, generated by a maneuver by Holgado deemed irresponsible by the commissioners. For this reason, the Spaniard had to serve two long lap penalties, with the 14th final position which proved to be a low blow also and above all for the development of the world championship ranking: in fact, with the victory of David Alonso (who broke away from the chasers with 4 laps to go without allowing the slipstream), Holgado now finds himself 37 points behind the world championship leader. A race which, until Alonso’s breakaway, saw continuous overtaking in the top areas of the standings at San Donato due to the slipstreams exploited on the long starting straight. In the end, to conquer the 2nd place was Collin Veijerone step away from complete recovery on Alonso and followed in third place by Ryusei Yamanakato the first top-3 placement. Bad instead Ortola, crashed on the last lap but moved up to sixth position.
