In Veen in Brabant, SV Nootdorp and SDV Barneveld played for promotion to the main division. When Nootdorp’s Gabriël Mendes Garcia wanted to throw in a throw-in, he was pelted with beer by the fans from Barneveld, racially treated and spat at. The assistant referee also felt threatened, after which the referee stopped the game for twenty minutes.

Dozens of police cars came to the sports park to keep the groups apart. Officers then screened off the corners of the field. After a cooling off period, the penalties were taken at a goal without fans. Nieuwenhoorn eventually won.
According to spokesperson Kiki Thielen of the East Brabant police, only two security guards and one volunteer were present. ,,For a match with about 750 supporters, half of which was for Ajax and the other half for Feyenoord.”
No arrests
As far as is known, no injuries have been reported. No arrests have been made or official reports have been drawn up. “There is an on-site assessment of whether safety can be guaranteed and this may have been a decision by colleagues not to make any arrests. The match was over, we escorted everyone on the buses and sent them back to where they came from. If necessary, we will still investigate and prosecute people.”
