Mexico City.- 50 percent of nearshoring companies reported having problems finding employees in Mexico with the required skills, specifically in the field of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), a study by EY and UVM revealed.
The analysis shows that 80 percent of companies consider digital skills such as data analysis, software development and quantitative reasoning to be among the most important.
In the presentation of the study, Raúl Carballo, representative of the UVM, indicated that the talent shortage will continue in the medium and long term, and that therefore collaboration between the productive and educational sectors is relevant. He added that turnover levels have increased in entities such as the State of Mexico, Jalisco, Nuevo León and Querétaro.
The study considered that the challenges faced by companies that are relocating to Mexico are the lack of labor availability, skills shortages, demographic changes, widespread informal work and insecurity.
“Security concerns are other valid considerations especially in certain areas with higher rates of social or crime unrest. Nearshoring companies should proactively address these concerns by implementing robust security measures,” the document warned.
