The municipal president of Juárez, Cruz Pérez Cuéllar, described as a “novelty in democratic matters” the election for courts and magistracies that will take place in 2025 and 2027 derived from the reform of the Judiciary.
“It is necessary to stop being afraid of democracy and give a vote of confidence to the process,” said the mayor during the weekly press conference. The election is scheduled for the first Sunday of June 2025, the mayor recalled, when 414 magistrates and 386 courts will be elected throughout the country. The councilor mentioned that “no one will have the favor of the people forever and whoever thinks that does not know the history of Mexico,” as he recalled that there have been politicians or parties that believe they are invincible but manage to be defeated by the Mexican people. According to the municipal government, this day, the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, sent changes to the secondary laws for judicial reform where dates, deadlines and tasks of each body are specified. On June 1, 2025, the majority of positions will be elected, such as nine members of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), magistrates of the Electoral Court that are vacant, magistrates of the Judicial Disciplinary Court and 50 percent of the magistrates of Collegiate Circuit Courts, specialized or mixed, and Courts of Appeal, as well as half of the holders of the District Courts of the Judicial Branch of the Federation. In the state of Chihuahua, there will be 12 magistrates available to be voted on in 2025, and the remaining 15 will be elected in 2027, while in the case of the courts, there will be 13 by 2024 and 12 by 2027. Three are currently vacant. magistrate positions eligible for voting by 2025 and a court. In Ciudad Juárez, there are four magistracies at stake and six courts, mainly from the Federal Criminal Justice Center, which deals with federal crimes prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic.
