For colleagues a real miracle
Colleagues still cannot understand how what is a real miracle for them could have happened. Riggs is the police dog shot in the forehead during an operation with Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department agents. He managed to survive despite the shot reaching him in the head at fairly close range.
Riggs received a gunshot to the head while on duty. The dog of the canine unit was with his human colleagues in Chicago, in a raid linked to some recent incidents in the city of Illinois, in the United States of America.
He had managed to stop one of the suspects, but at great cost. In fact, they shot him in the forehead. The police dog originally from Winsconsin is a hero today and many still wonder how he managed to survive, given the severe conditions in which it poured.
Riggs after the gunshot to the forehead, in full skull, he never lost consciousness. Immediately they transport him to the nearest veterinary emergency room. The doctors stabilized and operated on him urgently. And against all odds, he made it.
The bullet, in fact, had hit him in the head, in the center of the forehead, entering the skull. But he hadn’t loved to get past the skull. And that made the difference between the life and death of a heroic police dog like Riggs.
Police dog hit by a bullet, he’s fine now
The 8 year old dog, who has been working in the police for 5 years, is fine. He recovered completely and the K9 officers and dozens of friends threw him a nice party outside the hospital when they discharged him, to welcome him back.
Terry Tift, his colleague, never left him.
Those were difficult days. He is my family and always has been. He’s a sweet dog, but he knows his job and saved my life. This welcome fills my heart.
