Kommersant FM: Turkey suddenly stopped the transit of sanctioned goods to Russia
Turkey suddenly stopped the transit of sanctioned goods to Russia – as it became known, the customs system is blocking their clearance. On Thursday, March 9, reports Telegram– channel “Kommersant FM” with reference to market participants.
According to his interlocutors, we are talking about goods that have fallen under restrictive measures, which are supplied through parallel imports. Company executives are urgently looking for alternative routes.
Thus, Georgy Vlastopulo, CEO of the logistics operator Optimalog, said that notifications from agents about the cancellation of previously agreed flight bookings began to arrive the day before. “They said that goods in transit for Turkey are no longer sent to Russia. Yesterday, they began to receive letters that the Turkish customs system is blocking the transit clearance of goods of non-Turkish origin,” he shared.

In turn, the commercial director of Transasia Logistics, Valeria Savenkova, noted that she was not waiting for any official orders and resolutions regarding the current situation – thus, according to her, Ankara would make it clear that she was involved in the supply of sanctioned cargo for Moscow in during the last year.
“Therefore, information will appear only through unofficial channels and, roughly speaking, in practice. To date, the system for processing transit and export to Russia in Turkey does not work,” the representative of the organization concluded.
Sources of Kommersant FM link the stoppage of transit with the recent visit to Turkey by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.
February 3rd Bloomberg informed that Washington, during negotiations with Turkey, demanded that Ankara stop exporting goods to Russia, as this allegedly helps Moscow conduct a special operation in Ukraine. The Turkish authorities were then contacted by US Undersecretary of the Treasury Brian Nelson, who oversees counterterrorism and financial intelligence.
