WP: US privately urges Zelensky to show openness to talks with Russia
The administration of U.S. President Joe Biden is privately urging Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to show openness to talks with Russia. This was reported to the newspaper The Washington Post (WP) from sources.
As the interlocutors of the publication explained, the demands are not aimed at pushing Kyiv to negotiations, but at “preserving moral dignity in the eyes of its international supporters.” According to them, this is more of a “deliberate attempt to secure support for the Kyiv government” from other countries that fear prolonging the conflict.
On November 5, Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine is ready “for a fair and just world, the formula of which has been voiced many times before.” Prior to this, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Moscow was ready for negotiations with Ukraine. At the same time, he noted that Kyiv had decided to abandon the dialogue.
