On Monday evening, the Lebanese army began repositioning its forces near the border with Israel, according to what an army source told Reuters.
Reuters quoted a security source as saying that the Lebanese forces withdrew at least 5 kilometers north of its southern border with Israel.
The source, who preferred to remain anonymous, said that “the Lebanese army forces are repositioning and assembling forces on the southern border,” shortly after Israel informed the United States of “limited” ground operations targeting Hezbollah’s infrastructure inside Lebanese territory.
A Sky News Arabia correspondent also reported that the Lebanese army evacuated a number of advanced border sites and redeployed.
The army also left its center in Abu Shannan near Qatamoun in the Rmeish area in the central sector of southern Lebanon to reposition its forces in several border areas.
For his part, the official spokesman for UNIFIL, Andrea Tenenti, denied the rumors about UNIFIL asking the Lebanese army to evacuate some of its border posts at the behest of “Israel.”
- The Israeli side
On the other hand, the Israeli army announced, on Monday, a “closed military zone” in parts of Israel’s northern border with Lebanon.
The army said in a statement that “the areas of Metula, Misgav Am and Kfar Giladi in northern Israel have been declared a closed military zone. Entry into this area is prohibited.”
American sources revealed that Israel deployed combat engineers and other forces to carry out tasks in southern Lebanon, such as breaching barriers.
She added that Israel has already begun carrying out exploratory operations in southern Lebanon, including small ground missions.
This comes at a time when satellite images showed nearly 100 Israeli military vehicles, including tanks, trucks and armored personnel carriers, at a temporary assembly site in a field about five miles from the Lebanese border, according to what CNN reported.
Pictures taken on Sunday show that Israeli army vehicles began arriving there after September 26.
Images reveal that Israeli vehicles are still arriving at the site and a large truck carrying a tank can be seen on the main highway nearby.
