Israel | “Tonight we got Israel back on track” – In Israel, Parliament has approved the first budget in three years

The adoption of the budget proposals is a significant victory for an ideologically fragmented governing coalition.

Israel Parliament has approved the first state budget for three years. The adoption of the current and next year’s budget proposals is a significant victory for an ideologically fragmented governing coalition.

Prime minister Naphtali Bennettin the government had to get the budget through by 14 november so that the country would not have to hold its fifth parliamentary elections within three years.

The coalition managed to reach an agreement on the state budget proposal in early August after overnight negotiations and votes.

Almost across the entire political spectrum, the coalition, formed in 61 seats, has only a slight majority in the country’s 120-seat parliament, the Knesset. Despite its fragmentation, the government front did not crack during nearly 36 hours of budget voting.

A total of around 600 separate votes were required in Parliament to approve the budget. At the same time, Parliament approved this year’s budget of SEK 609 billion, or around EUR 170 billion, and next year’s budget estimate of SEK 573 billion, or around EUR 160 billion.

Bennettin and the rise of his partners to power in June ended the country’s longest-running prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu reign.

In the new government, the responsibilities of the prime minister will be shared by Bennett of the Yamina party representing religious nationalism and the Yesh Atid party of the Central Party. Yair Lapid.

Bennett Lapid was the first to take the lead when he served as foreign minister on the board. Lapid is due to take over the board after two years in the middle of the term. As the centrist jumps on the sticks, Bennett is to become the country’s interior minister.

On Thursday, after the adoption of the 2021 budget, Bennet incited how, after years of chaos, Israel has formed a government, defeated the delta transformation of the coronavirus, and is finally getting through the budget as well.

“Tonight we got Israel back on track,” Bennett tweeted early Friday shortly after the entire budget package had received a blessing from decision-makers.

“Coalition for Change,” tweeted in turn after the Lapid package went through parliament.
