Kan: Israel to investigate possible assassination of Hamas leader Sinwar
The Israeli security system is checking information about the possible liquidation of the leader of the radical Palestinian movement Hamas, Yahya Sinwar. This is reports Israeli state broadcaster Kan reported without citing sources.
It is specified that Sinwar could have been eliminated during an attack by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in the Gaza Strip. “There is no reliable data confirming such information, and there is a dispute in the security agencies as to whether he was simply cut off from communications once again or was actually eliminated,” the statement says.
Meanwhile, Israel’s Channel 2 television, citing its security sources, noted that these were “unfounded hopes.”
Earlier, the US Justice Department indicted Yahya Sinwar, the leader of the radical Palestinian group Hamas, and other militants in connection with the attack on Israel on October 7. According to the indictments, Sinwar and other senior Hamas members are accused of “financing and directing a multi-year campaign (…) to endanger the security of the United States.”
