The IDF (Israeli Armed Forces) announced this Tuesday (8.Oct.2024) that Suhail Hussein, commander of the headquarters of the extremist group Hezbollah in Beirut, was killed by an Israeli attack. The information is from the news agency Reuters.
Since the beginning of the escalation of tension in the region, Israel has also been responsible for the death of Hasan Nasrallah, the group’s main leader. On Saturday (Oct 5), Hezbollah reportedly lost contact with Hashem Safieddine, head of the executive council. Safieddine is the main candidate to take over leadership of Hezbollah after Nasrallah.
ISRAELIAN OFFENSIVE IN LEBANON
Israel and Lebanon’s Hezbollah group have been fighting on the border since the start of the war in the Gaza Strip in October 2023, after an attack by Hamas, an ally of the Lebanese extremist group.
The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah intensified after 2 attacks on communication devices used by the extremist group. Lebanon accuses the Jewish country, which denies responsibility. The explosions of pagers and walkie talkies, in September, they left at least 32 dead and more than 3,000 injured.
Since last week, bombings have been carried out daily. The country claims that the operations target Hezbollah leaders. These are the most intense air attacks in almost a year of conflict in the region.
According to Lebanon’s Ministry of Health, more than 1,000 Lebanese were killed and another 6,000 injured after Israeli bombings.
