The Israeli army announced the launch of air strikes against more than 300 Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon on Monday (23).
Residents of regions affected by the military offensive were warned to stay away from properties used as bases by the terrorist group.
According to the Defense Forces (IDF), the strikes were authorized by Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi after Hezbollah terrorists were identified preparing to launch rockets at Israel.
In a statement during an assessment of rear readiness amid intensified fighting, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said that “we are facing days when the public will have to show composure, discipline and full obedience” to instructions from the Home Front Command.
“So far, more than 300 Hezbollah targets have been attacked,” the army said in a statement. A few minutes earlier, the Israeli military announced 150 airstrikes in just one hour, from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. (00:30 to 1:30 a.m. Brasília time).
This is Israel’s biggest attack on Lebanon since the exchange of aggression between the two sides began on October 8 last year, a day after the Hamas massacre on Israeli territory that left thousands of civilians dead.
According to information from the Lebanese Ministry of Health, one person died in an airstrike on the Bekaa Valley, located about 30 kilometers east of the capital, Beirut.
Gallant said Monday he briefed U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin on the latest military strikes against Hezbollah in Lebanon. The Israeli defense minister said the officials discussed, among other things, the broader regional situation and the threats posed by Iran and its proxies.
