The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) killed this Monday (8) in Syria Hassan Hakashah, a member of Hamas, accusing him of orchestrating a series of rocket attacks from Syrian territory against Israel.
“Today [segunda-feira], the Israel Defense Forces eliminated Hassan Hakashah in Beit Jinn, Syria. He was a central figure responsible for the rockets fired by Hamas from Syrian territory into Israel in recent weeks,” an IDF spokesman said.
“Since the beginning of the war, Hakashah has led the Hamas terrorist cells that fired rockets from Syria,” the spokesman added, stressing that the IDF “will not allow terrorism from Syrian territory.”
“We will hold Syria accountable for all activities emanating from its territory, and the IDF will continue to act against any threat it poses to the State of Israel,” the spokesperson added.
In recent months, Israel has been targeting the terrorist group's positions in Syria, as rocket fire from Syrian territory towards Israeli targets has been repeated since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas, on October 7, 2023.
However, this exchange of fire is intermittent and staggered, without the high level of hostilities that the Jewish State has with the terrorist group Hezbollah on the border between Israel and Lebanon.
Iranian and pro-Iranian armed militias are present in Syria as allies of the country's dictator, Bashar al-Assad, and Israel frequently attacks some of their positions, weapons depots or even supply convoys.
