Stop France from supplying weapons to Israel, which it then uses in the war in Gaza, and ceasefire in Lebanon. These are the two messages that President Emmanuel Macron sent to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyhau. “I think that today the priority is to reach a political solution, to stop supplying weapons to fight in Gaza. France is not sending them”, said the number 1 of the Elysée.
“We condemn in the strongest terms the terrorist attack by Hamas on 7 October and we recognize Israel’s right to defend itself. But it must do so as a democracy, respecting international and humanitarian law”, warned Macron, according to whom “terrorism cannot be fights by sacrificing the civilian population.” And again, the French president accused: “Israel doesn’t listen and that’s a problem now and for the future security of Israelis.”
Macron returned to the topic by answering a question during the Francophonie Summit; “When we call for a ceasefire – this is the case for Gaza, it was the case for Lebanon last week – we try not to call for a ceasefire while we continue to supply the weapons of war. I think it’s just about consistency” , he added.
The 88 members of the Organization international de la Francophonie (Oif), including France, Canada and Belgium, they called “unanimously” for an “immediate and lasting” ceasefire in Lebanonanother member of the OIF, announced the French president.
“We spoke unanimously in favor of an immediate and lasting ceasefire and guaranteed our commitment to de-escalating tensions in the region,” he said during the closing press conference of the Organization’s 19th summit.
