On the day that marks one year of war in the Middle East, Israel confirmed the death of another hostage at the Super Nova music festival.
The Defense Forces (IDF) announced this Monday (7) that Idan Shtivi, 28 years old, was killed during the Hamas attack on this same date last year, in southern Israel. His body was taken to Gaza, along with dozens of others.
Shtivi’s family was informed this Sunday (6) that the Army concluded that he was killed during the massacre at the Super Nova music festival.
His death was first reported this morning by the Hostage Family Forum. It was later confirmed by the IDF, who said the confirmation came “based on intelligence information analyzed by a panel of experts at the Ministry of Health.”
Shtivi was described by the Hostage Family Forum as “a nature lover and photography enthusiast who studied sustainability and government at Reichman University in Herzliya.”
According to the information released, he went to photograph the music festival, but made a call to his girlfriend around 7 am (local time), telling her about the missiles heading towards Israel. For that reason, I was leaving.
Shtivi left in his car with two friends, Lior and Yulia, but was blocked by the terrorists on the northbound road. He turned the car around and began driving south, but was pushed off the road, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree.
He was last seen at that location, and the car was later found covered in bullet holes and blood.
Israeli authorities identified the bodies of his friends on the road, but Shtivi was missing and it was later determined that he had been taken hostage to Gaza, where his body is held by Hamas terrorists to this day, a year after the start of the conflict.
Israel’s Chief of Staff says October 7 is “a recognition of failures”
On the anniversary of the multiple attack by Hamas, which left 1,200 dead in Israeli territory and 251 kidnapped, the chief of the Israeli General Staff, Herzi Halevi, acknowledged this Sunday that the troops were unable to protect citizens and that, on that day, they must recognize your “failures” and learn from them.
“A year has passed since October 7th, the day we failed in our mission to protect the citizens of the State of Israel. We are now in the Ten Days of Repentance. October 7th is not only a day of remembrance, but also a call for deep introspection, a recognition of our failures, and a commitment to learn from them,” Halevi said in a letter to the military.
In the document, the lieutenant general also reiterated that Israel defeated the military wing of the terrorist group in the Gaza Strip, but has not yet completely eliminated its capacity for action, adding that it “dealt a severe blow to Hezbollah” in Lebanon, which, according to him , lost the members of its leadership.
“We are adopting an offensive, tactical and proactive approach on all fronts, adapting our defensive strategies on all borders and realizing that the Israel Defense Forces must be larger, capable of taking good care of its people”, he analyzed.
Halevi’s comments came on the eve of the anniversary of the Hamas attack. The day will begin with protests by victims in front of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s residence in Jerusalem. A ceremony is also planned at kibbutz Re’im, site of the Super Nova music festival, where a siren will sound at 6:29 am (the time the attack began).
Among other events throughout the day, a ceremony for the families of the victims of October 7th will be held at 7pm local time (1pm Brasília time) in Tel Aviv’s Yarkon Park, which is closed to the public due to security guidelines imposed on the country. after the offensive in Lebanon.
