Police and Israel’s internal security service, the Shin Bet, foiled a terrorist attack in Tel Aviv planned by five Israeli Arab citizens linked to the Islamic State (ISIS).
According to information, terrorists would use a car bomb to blow up a shopping mall in Tel Aviv, under the banner of ISIS.
The five were residents of the city of Taybeh, in central Israel, and formed a terrorist cell. According to the Shin Bet, the cell’s leaders were named as Mahmoud Azam and Ibrahim Sheik Yousef. They recruited three others for terrorist action: Sajed Masarwa, Abdullah Baransi and Abdel Kareem Baransi.
Other details released in a statement indicate that the five studied terrorist attacks that took place in Syria, the birthplace of the Islamic State, and even came into contact with “ISIS agents” outside the country. They planned to travel abroad to meet these terrorists.
Israeli authorities arrested the five in recent weeks, according to police, during the “preliminary stages” of the attack.
